STEPHEN COYLE Stephen Coyle glorifies the mundane in his rich alkyd - a resin cousin of acrylic - paintings. They are spontaneous, vivid recordings, large to small, of everyday life: an ironing board and iron, a child's dress on a hanger, a large kitchen table draped with a white cloth, linoleum floor and all, pedestrians on a street corner, ordinary city buildings. There is a deeply contemplative aspect to his work. There is an overall beauty in its simplicity. In 1991, Coyle won the prestigious First Place, Still Life Competition award of The Artist's Magazine. His work is in collections in the United States and Europe.
