STEPHEN COYLE
b. 1956

Stephen Coyle glorifies the mundane in his rich alkyd - a resin cousin of acrylic - paintings. They are spontaneous, vivid recordings, large to small, of everyday life: an ironing board and iron, a child's dress on a hanger, a large kitchen table draped with a white cloth, linoleum floor and all, pedestrians on a street corner, ordinary city buildings. There is a deeply contemplative aspect to his work. There is an overall beauty in its simplicity.
